You will just have to play FFXIV outside of steam from then on from the client you download from the official site.. Mogstation recognises this. On top of this, Steam codes for FFXIV are different to physical/non-Steam codes.
They mean if you want to continue playing ffxiv on steam then you have to buy the steam version of heavensward as it is a new client, (yes you will have to redownload the whole of FFXIV again, which includes arr and hw) Got a source on that? All they've stated is that users who bought FFXIV on Steam will need to buy Heavensward on Steam..
